Quick update on "24"
So I'm on episode 6 I think of "24" which means I have stayed with my plan thus far. My exercise bike does not sound like a garbage truck trying to pick up a dumpster and offers a good workout. I have to admit that "24" started out kind of slow. I had to remind myself that it started while I was on my mission over 8 years ago. Anyway, I can say it was a good idea to link watching an addictive TV show to exercise.

New exercise plan with trainer, Jack Bauer!
So I haven't posted on here in quite a while but I think I have found new motivation and an idea for exercising every day. I recently purchased a Gold's Gym Power Spin 290 exercise bike. My plan and creation is called the "24 Exercise Plan."
I've never even seen a single episode of the show excluding the episode I watched last night. I've hear good things about it and have also heard that it is addicting which I think might be a good thing to link to exercise.
The plan is as follows: at least 5 days a week (hopefully 6 times) I will exercise for at least 30 minutes (hopefully the full 42 minutes) while I watch an episode of 24. I can only watch up to 2 episodes a day but for each episode I watch I have to exercise at least 30 minutes. There are 8 seasons of 24 and 192 episodes not including the two-hour movie "24:Redemption" which fits in between seasons six and seven. So that gives me exactly 32 weeks of exercise (at 6 times a week) and at 2 pounds a week that is a potential 64 pounds. When I've done diets in the past I typically can lose weight a little faster than the average.
Obviously I can just exercise so I am including some modification of food intake. If we call it a diet then I will just be waiting for it to be over so that I can eat the food I want again. So, I'm not going to say that I'm completely cutting out stuff like hamburgers and ice cream but I am going with the rule that "if I can say no, then I will say no" but I have the option of eating whatever if the opportunity and desire meet at the right moment. Cupled with that I will be trying to reduce the portions of food that I eat. I've noticed that when I get a foot-long sub from Subway I am satisfied by the time I eat half of the sandwich, but I paid for and therefore will eat the whole sandwich. Similarly when I'm out to eat I will try to order foods that can be reheated another day so I don't feel like I have to consume everything in front of me so as to make my wallet feel better.
I'm hoping that if I have a plan that it will be easier to report on my status on a more regular basis. After my first episode I have to say that the show is intriguing and I do want to see what happens.

1 Hour into "Just take the stairs"
I know it is cliche to say "just take the stairs" but I work on the 6th floor of the building so I thought, hey it could help. I've only been doing it for an hour and, perhaps this is simply commentary on how out of shape I am, but after going down to the second floor only to show up to a meeting 30 minutes early and have to turn around and go back up to the 6th floor and then go down again. Well, I can see how it can help. However, I may grow to hate my shoes as they sound like I am wearing plastic old man garden sandals. It should be noted that I am in fact wearing some casual Dr. Martins. On the plus side I am sweating, with is always appreciated at work.
First day of the rest of my life
What is this blog for? I don't want to call it a diet because diets come to and end and when your on one that is all you are thinking about, the end of it. So, let's call this a change is how I eat and how active I am. Why am I doing a blog? Accountability. I think it is key for successfully losing weight. I'll be posting my weight daily and I hope to have a daily picture montage that I'll post once a month I think (take a picture once a day and then made it into a video. I'm going to setup some rules and guidelines and post them here. Apart from that I am going to post tips and ideas that I find around the internet. I hope to accomplish two goals with this blog. First, I hope to lose weight and get healthier, and second, I hope the ideas I post can help someone else. So, without further delay, let's get his party started!
